Take a narrow overhand grip in the middle of a barbell handle. There should be 4 - 6 inches between your index fingers when you have the correct grip on the bar. Set your feet about shoulder width apart, and stand erect with your your arms straight down at your sides, the barbell resting in your hands across your upper thighs. Keep your torso upright and as motionless as possible as you do your set.

Moving only your arms, slowly pull the barbell directly upward close to your body until the backs of your fist are in line with the underneath of your chin. It is important as you do this movement, both upward and downward, that you keep your elbows well above the level of your hands gripping the barbell. At the top of the movement you should rotate your shoulders to the rear and press your shoulder blades together briefly.
