Below we asked three
trainers their views and opinions from the following
supplements Reflex Progen bar, Powerhouse Cookies and CNP's Pro Bar 2. These people have been training and using sport
supplements for over two years.
| Question |
Before
us we have a selection of the most popular used snack supplements, that you have all tried and used and you wish to share with
us your views and opinions.
So chaps, what do you think
about these snacks?
|
| Answer |
Gary
- A godsend! Im into bodybuilding, but Im into food as well, thats why
Im out of shape some times. But Ive been looking for the holy grail of
combining bodybuilding and good food. I was eating the powerhouse Cookies!
And how great are they!!!
Tim - Im into the
Progen bar to be honest. Its more of a complete, well thought out, science
bar, rather than just a snack. The damn things better than if you cooked a
well thought out meal. Genius.
Peter - I like the
Pro-Bar. Its a meal in itself. Well thought out like the Pro Bar.

| Question |
So
what do you get for your nutrition in a small little snack like that?
|
| Answer |
Peter
- Small! These babies are great! A high quality blended protein for
fast and slow released amino acids into your blood stream. Just enough
real carbs for a bit of stable blood sugar and a lot of non insulin
stimulating fructo - good gut stuff! Packed full of vitamins and minerals
too.
Tim - Well this is
genius! Its got the best protein blend, the best carb mix, again like the
ProBar - its low in usable carbs so good for ketone diets. PAcked full of
CLA and NAC and Pro-Biotics, vits and minerals. Its like I said better
than anything you could cook up yourself!
Gary - High, high
protein or a good source in the bed of the tastiest damn cookie in the
world! This is an awesome snack. I wouldn't say you could live on them but
if you were on a diet or stuck to a serious nutritional regime and you
wanted something yummy without blowing your diet completely and you wanted
great protein in your meal - this is awesome.

| Question |
Tell
me about the texture and taste guys.
|
| Answer |
Gary
- I mean its a cookie like no other. But like other cookies if you
know what I mean. Moist, great to dip in warm milk and crunchy in places.
Great.
Peter - Chewy.
Really chewy. Give you the best jaw muscles on the planet. These bars
really fill you up and have the creamiest and thickest texture you can
get, covered in great chocolate layers.
Tim - The Progen bar
is a little softer than that. It wont give you goliath jaw muscles. I
prefer that than jaw ache. A pleasant, fluffier bar.

| Question |
What
about digestibility and taste there?
|
| Answer |
Peter
- Mouth watering. They get your taste buds going when you see a
packet. I like them anyway. The flavours are quite strong and so are the
smells. Very yummy. Never had any digestion problems - but I think they do
fill you up - think they have a lot of fibre in them.
Tim - Progen is a
little lighter on the digestion - you don't feel full or bloated, you
never get any stomach trouble at all. The smell and taste is like most of
the Reflex range - its more subtle and not so in your face. I prefer
that. It doesn't over face you at all.
Gary - Mmmmm, mmmmm,
mmmm. What can I say guys. You like cookies, you like Powerhouse cookies.
Great stuff!

| Question |
Is
there really any place in an athletes diet for these type of products or
are they a gimmick?
|
| Answer |
Gary
- Of course there is! We're all human. We can't live of chicken and
rice seven times a day everyday. Once in awhile you want something that
tastes hot but you dont want to blow your diet with a mars bar. If you
want cookies get one of these cookies. They make much more sense for the
training athlete. Im still in good shape for the winter and Ive been
eating a couplea day for weeks before we reviewed them!
Peter - Totally.
These things are getting better than food like Tim says. I mean they keep
your insulin low, there's good and smart fats in them, fibre and quality
protein. Like space food. Ideal for the athlete.
Tim - I
think Reflex have purposefully moved away from any gimmick products
anyway. This is well thought out scientific nutrition. I have three MRP's
or three bars these days. No difference. They're just as good as each
other. Just better variety.
