WHAT IS BIOPERINE?
Bioperine is the patented preparation of the black pepper thermogen, piperine,
isolated from the fruit of the black pepper plant or long pepper plant. Bioperine has been shown to
increase digestion and the absorption of nutrients, by exerting its effects
directly on the intestinal wall, causing it to become more permeable to ensure
less degradation of any active compounds (nutrients or drugs) used alongside
this substance. Often used with many fat loss products or meal/protein
supplements to ensure a higher percentage of nutrients get through to work
better. In itself this substance does not cause fat loss or weight gain, rather
the main effect of Bioperine is to enhance the bioavailability of various
nutrients consumed along with it.
There is also evidence that piperine could possibly form bonds with nutrients
(called apolar complexes) allowing them to cross membrane barriers more easily.
Studies in the US have shown that piperine increases the absorption of nutrients
such as beta-carotene, vitamins B-6 and B-1, and the mineral selenium.
Bioperine® is suitable for anyone who wants to increase the
bioavailability and absorption of the supplements they use and can now be
found in many supplement preparations such as MRP's.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The sensation of warmth in the mouth after consuming black pepper is
primarily due to the presence of the alkaloid piperine, which was
isolated at the beginning of the 19th century by the German scientist
Derstad. Bioperine® is a standardized piperine extract obtained from the
fruits of the black pepper and/or long pepper plants that are cultivated
in the damp, nutrient-rich soil regions of south India. The delicate
pepper berries are hand harvested prior to ripening and then sun dried.
Bioperine® has been clinically tested in the United States and shown
to significantly enhance the bioavailability of supplemented nutrients
through increased absorption. Studies show that Bioperine® increases
the absorption of coenzyme Q10 by approximately 30%, with some trials
demonstrating a 20-fold increase in bioavailability. Bioperine® also
has several U.S. patents as a bioavailability enhancer (including #
5,536,506, # 5,744,161 and # 5,972,382). The only clinical studies done
with piperine for nutritional purposes are with Bioperine®.
Bioperine® will enhance the bioavailability of co-administered
nutrients by 30% or more.
HOW MUCH SHOULD I USE?
Doses currently in use by most supplement products range from 1 - 5 mg 2 - 3
times per day.
Approximately 2-5 milligrams of Bioperine® is needed to enhance the
bioavailability and absorption of nutrients consumed with it.
