Your Needs

You require an increase in overall calories in order to stimulate your body to gain weight. Your desire is to put on mass and cannot or would rather not, try and consume all of your calories from whole food sources as the cost would escalate and the digestability would be poor to impossible.

Description

Weight Gainers are designed for those people who require a substantial increase in their daily calorie levels in order to assist them in gaining weight. It is interesting to note that those people with a very fast metabolism (those that require more macro nutrients as their bodies are far more efficient at metabolising them) and those people with very substantial physical jobs or work loads or even training schedules that are burning up essential calories, are of course primary candidates to make good use of an appropriate weight gainer supplement.

In order to gain weight, it is simple physiology, that one must be in a positive calorie influx, as appossed, to a negative calorie balance. In other words you simply need more energy coming in than you are burning up. Your body will then have to do something with the excess energy - namely store it throughout the system. This can lead to increased storage of muscle glycogen, muscle proteins, intracellular fats etc - all leading to gains in mass.

Weight Gainers also make excellent high calorie post workout recovery drinks. Excellent choices for consuming a liquid nutritional support supplement in your unique window of high absorption opportunity post exercise to really kick start muscle repair, growth and system recovery.

To constitute a weight gainer, the drink is normally similar in essence to a Meal Replacement Powder, yet higher in calories and they do not necessarily have to contain vitamins and minerals, although they may. They do contain combinations of the major macro nutrients - protein, carbohydrates and fats. To which balance and quantity the elements are contained depends grossly upon the manufacturer and often the manufacturers science and beliefs as to what is effective for one to gain weight substantially. In other words some products will be higher in protein and moderate in carbohydrates, and some will be lower in protein and heavily weighted towards insulin stimulating carbohydrates, and certain products even highly geared towards a high fat content. It is not that one science is correct over another, rather, the human body is so unique and individualised, that one product will work better for one person than a different product.

You will normally find that the taste and mixability of weight gainers vary greatly from manufacturer to manufacturer. This is less to do with quality but rather the result one is looking for. Some people like a heavy, thick, milkshake type of weight gain that tastes filling, and is heavy on the stomach giving the fullest satisfying affect such as when consuming a large hearty meal. Some people, those naturally thin people, with a fast metabolsim and no appetite, may prefer a high calorie weight gainer that is very light and liquid like, that tastes more like flavoured water and doesn't sit in the stomach or make one feel they have just consumed a meal. Again, there is no relevance or bearing on this as to which is the better product, only that they are different for different persons taste.
