PhD Smart Bar Protein Bar Supplement Information
Do you know what’s really inside your protein bar?
PhD Nutrition’s Smart Bar™ fills the void left behind by modern-day
nutrition bars crammed full of sugar, hidden carbohydrates, gelatine, artificial
preservatives and other ingredients that essentially are no good for those
seeking optimum health and vitality. The Smart Bar™ contains No artificial
sweeteners! The major source of carbohydrates within the bar comes in the
form of 100% natural fruit juice, which as many of you will know contains
fibre and naturally-occurring fructose, a carbohydrate with a low glycemic
rating of 23. Whilst many protein bars contain potentially-unhealthy (delete
comma) ingredients such as corn syrup, glucose, hydrogenated fats and other
such additives, the Smart Bar™ is purity in comparison. PhD Nutrition
were determined to create a nutrition bar that differed from the rest of
the market. Our objectives were clear:
PhD didn’t want the 'Smart Bar' bar crammed full with artificial
sweeteners. (v)
PhD wanted a natural and healthy carbohydrate source that rated low on
the glycemic index in their Smart Bar.
PhD wanted the bar to contain healthy nutrients in the 'Smart Bar' not
usually seen in a sports bar. (v)
PhD wanted a nutrition bar with Whey Protein and Micellar Casein for slow,
steady release of amino acids throughout the day in their 'Smart Bar'.
(v)
PhD insisted that no nutrition bar in our range would contain hydrogenated
fats or gelatine. (v)
Balance and necessity - The PhD Smart Bar
Athletes need balance in our daily diet. Excessively low in any nutrient
and you are essentially missing out on all the benefits that each nutrient
can supply to the diet.
Smart Bar™, provides the ultimate, healthy bite-size, dual-action
protein bar, which serves as either:
A pre-workout snack with just the right amount of protein and carbohydrates
to ensure a productive workout.
A snack between meals to ensure protein levels are maintained and constant
throughout the day
A late night snack complete with dual-acting protein sources and naturally-occurring
fibre to ensure a slow and steady release of amino acids.
An ideal mini-meal whilst on the road or throughout your regular day.
Smart Bar™ is part of the PhD Nutrition Mass and Strength range
and can be used successfully with all other PhD products.
Just a few benefits of the ingredients within in Smart Bar™!
- Whey Protein may help boost energy levels and assist with muscle growth
(in the Smart Bar)
- Whey Protein is a natural source of Leucine, a Branched Chain Amino
Acid that plays a vital part in muscle protein synthesis. (1)
- Added dietary protein, offered by the PhD Smart Bar, may help provide
satiety, potentially aiding weight-loss and helping to avoid snacking.
- Smart Bar™ is rich in Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAA’s)
from 3 protein sources (Whey Protein, Micellar Casein and Soy protein)
- Whey Protein is also rich in cysteine, a precursor to the potent antioxidant
Glutathione, in healthy doses in the PhD Smart Bar.
- Whey Protein Concentrate contains naturally-occurring components that
play a large role in maintaining gut and intestinal health. Three pre-biotic
components of Whey Protein (Glycomacropeptide-GMP, Lactoferrin-LF and
Calcium) all have potential to act as friendly bacteria within the colon
and ensure optimum health. (2)
- Whey Protein in the Smart Bar can help bolster the immune system and
ensure optimum well-being.
- Smart Bar™ contains Micellar Casein which is a very slow-release
protein, shown to be efficient at releasing amino acids into the bloodstream
over a long period of time.
- Soy Protein compares extremely favourably to Whey Protein on many fronts.
One study showed that supplementing with a nutritional bar containing
Soy Protein favourably increased antioxidant status post-exercise, in
fact more so that a bar containing Whey Protein only. (3)
- Recent experimental and epidemiological studies have provided convincing
evidence for a variety of health benefits derived from the consumption
of Soy Protein and soy food products contained within the Smart Bar.

There aren’t many 50G bars on the market, why did PhD create Smart
bar™
PhD Smart Bar Answer: It’s simple really, PhD believe that protein
and nutritional bars should really be on the market as a snack, an “in-between”
meal for everyone to enjoy. PhD felt that the traditional 80-100G bar
was too big for most people and far too expensive as well. At a retail
price of 99pence, the Smart bar™ can be used by everyone looking
for a very healthy, protein and carb snack, which should be everyone.
The Smart bar™ is radically different in terms of ingredients to
every other nutrition bar on the marketplace, why is this?
PhD Smart Bar Answer: PhD carried out extensive research into what modern
consumers demanded from a nutritional bar and designed the Smart bar™
around these needs. We found that consumers were tired of buying a protein
bar high in protein, seemingly low in carbs only to discover on closer
inspection that the bar contained extras such as Polyols, hydrogenated
fat, corn syrups and was crammed full of gelatine. Being an athlete implies
an image of supreme health. Many protein bars in our opinion are not healthy.
Sure they look high in protein, low in carbs, but on closer inspection,
contain many ingredients detrimental to quality nutritional intake. Smart
bar™ contains quality protein and 85% of the carbohydrate content
comes from natural fruit juice (A low GI carb source). Smart bar also
contains:
No artificial sweeteners in Smart Bar
No gelatine (a big plus) in Smart Bar
No hydrogenated fats in Smart Bar
No corn syrups in Smart Bar
What about the taste and texture of the bar?
Phd Smart Bar Answer: The smart bar™ tastes great. It consists of
a fantastic Toffee & caramel crunch texture with protein crispy bit
throughout the bar. The majority of consumers who taste the Smart bar™
love the flavour and texture.
